While the 995c does not print borderless color, it’s photo quality printing is excellent. We printed a few 8 x 10 inch color prints at the maximum photo resolution of 2400 x 1200 dpi. The images are our test benchmarks of outdoor naturally lit flowers and leaves, and indoors of Tungsten lit faces and a color bar chart. The HP Deskjet 995c was appreciably better than Epson C80, better than a Canon S900 ($299 street) and nearly as good as the Canon S9000 (absurdly high priced). All the colors were faithful except for flesh tones, which had a fraction of a reddish tint even on photo gloss paper. 90% of the people would unlikely notice, but our photometer caught it. Text printing was flawless, far better than the fuzzy text on the Canon S900. Here

The HP Deskjet 995c has been around for 10 months now and no one has followed its lead with some impressive features important to a number of market segments. Small-Medium Business, Schools and the Home User, all of which find “on the go” built-in Bluetooth/USB/IR technology, duplex printing, high quality photo realistic and text printing at a very reasonable “ppm” speed, and all in one package. Considering what you will get built into this package, and compared to what the competition offers, the $399. price is a bargain. Tech-edge e-zine Recommendation - Tech Lab ITstaff rating: Five Thumbs-up and Tech-edge e-zine awards Hewlett-Packard our Editor’s Choice 2001 award for “Best New Desktop Printer Technology for SMB and SoHo”.
