Thin, Great Resolution and Nice Price, Envisions EN-7100e, May 21,2002 (cont'd.)

In tests conducted in TechTV Labs, image quality was quite good for this price point, and we've seen far less consistent color and sharpness on higher-priced LCDs. We tested the panel at its native resolution (1024x768) with a variety of photo screens. A high-resolution photo of a flower bouquet looked vividly fresh, with crisp, deep reds and lush lavenders. A series of pure color panels (magenta, blue, yellow, black) didn't reveal any dead pixels or splotches.
“the company hasn't mentioned any Mac OS X compatibility”

Text didn't suffer, either. Letters and numbers were sharp on both word-processing documents and spreadsheets. All in all, the image quality would suit a variety of general home and small office purposes, such as surfing the Web, I.M. chat sessions, and creating charts and memos.

We did notice a few minor anomalies. When you tilt the panel slightly upward, the screen has a tendency to have a greenish overcast, but it's not distracting. Image quality from right and side viewing angles wasn't as good as when you sit in front of the panel, but that's more the rule than the exception with LCDs.

tech-edge e-zine rating: 8.5 out of 10

The EN-7100e is an affordable 17-inch LCD. It doesn't boast many bells and whistles, but if you're stretched for cash and need or want an LCD, this is a fine choice. The company offers a low-cost 15-inch model too, branded under the AOC moniker, for $379. It's also one of the cheapest prices out there.

Pros: Low cost, bright colors.
Cons: Awkwardly positioned on-screen controls, on/off button hard to find, no frills.
