One area our reviewers had varying degrees of success on was moving info to a handheld PIM (Personal Information Manager) or Palm / Handspring / Sony Clie to the rest of you. First, if you use a Handspring PIM with the Mac edition, you’re flat out of luck, and it’s not NUDC’s fault. It’s because Handspring has failed to provide an OS X version of the Desktop Manager in nearly two years and the Palm OS X version is not recommended for use, according to Handspring. Thank you, Handspring!

The next disappointment is that there appears to be no way to export your To-Do list to Palm. Otherwise the calendar and contact data sync capabilities with your Palm Desktop are very complete. There were a few occasions that the application crashed under OS X and Win XP though. Unplugging the USB cradle and re-plugging it in seems to solve some of the issues in synchronizing to you Palm handheld.

Should you give up your Palm Desktop Manager? Not if To-Do and a few other Palm conduit features like time updates and email are important to you. This is a detraction for NUDC users that also rely on their Palm OS devices.

If you own a Mac version iPod, you’ll really like this, because you can also sync your calendar and contacts with reasonable ease. This is a very attractive solution if you don’t go anywhere without your iPod. We hope that there will be similar capabilities for Windows iPod owners in the future.

The Bottom Line –
A majority of the reviewers liked both Mac and Windows versions of Now Up-to-Date & Contact, especially if they were cross-platformers. From a usability aspect, the only complaints were that quickly adding a calendar point was not as simple as it is with Palm’s Desktop PIM, and the lack of To-Do printing and sync with Palm devices.

With no other cross-platform PIM competitor (except Palm Desktop), Now Up-to-Date & Contact is really in a league of it’s own and its also a strong choice even if you're all Mac or PC. Now Software has an excellent reputation for customer support and problem solving.
