Company Hot on the heals of the Cisco acquisition of Irvine California Linksys Inc., Synergy Research reports that D-Link Systems, also of Irvine California, is pulling within .four tenths of one percent of the market leader. The new market number show that D-Link is the fastest growing SOHO and home wireless networking company. Increasing its market
share 35% in Q4 2002, D-Link controls the second largest worldwide market
share at 21%, according to a report published by analyst firm Synergy
Research Group, Inc. D-Link outperformed more than nine major networking
solutions providers in Q4 2002, and is within half of a percent of the
current market share leader. With the ongoing slump in the enterprise and corporate network hardware market, a focus on the SoHo, Home and accessory consumer markets have proven a very smart move for D-Link as they close in one the top market position. Being first to market with innovative and leading edge technology like AirPlus Enhanced, Dual-Mode 802.11a and b, Tri-Mode 802.11a,b and g, Bluetooth and advanced VoIP devices like the new i2Eye Consumer Broadband Videophone (see our full i2Eye review 5/2/03). |

The big three companies in this market segment (Linksys, D-Link and Buffalo) are leaving the once well known brands of 3COM, AVAYA, Agere, Proxim and SMC in the "has been" category. All seem to be well behind in equivalent technology introductions. Increasing
its market share 35% in Q4 2002, "D-Link is a global manufacturer with strong market share in the SOHO wireless networking arena, which is a fast growing segment," said Aaron Vance, Industry Analyst, Synergy Research Group. "The bulk of the market share foundation is from the D-Link North American market, however, strong unit shipments in Europe have really propelled the Company to a leadership position." "With their awesome growth, D-Link should continue to be one of the top players in this highly competitive market," added Vance. "As our D-Link business units around the world expand their retail push of wireless it is rapidly thrusting our market share forward," said Steven Joe, President of D-Link. "We are poised to lead the worldwide market share for wireless products, and in light of the recent Synergy report, we're closer to that goal every day."
