iBook speed
jump to 900MHz imminent. There are always tell tale signs at Apple when new products are about to pop. Either the supply chain of catalog or brick and mortar dealers begin offering incentive prices and packaged deals, or the supply chain on the product dries up. In the case of the iBook, sales have become stale and the incentives are out in full force. Think Secret, an online "rumor site", has confirmed specifications on the three new models through their claimed various highly reliable sources, as well as company documents. We have also heard rumblings through the Apple supply chain, usually a very reliable network for imminent Apple product news. The new models Think
Secret has found evidence of, will not have any new features or increases
in memory or hard drive size, making them simply 'speed bump' changes.
The low-end model will be boosted from 700MHz to 800MHz and the mid-range
and high-end models will go from 800MHz to 900MHz. We suspect that Apple
will also add the new Airport G (802.11G) in place of the older 802.11b
card. |

Since sales have been tenuous on the iBook's as of late, it is expected that prices for the three models will stay at existing MSRP's. Will the slightly
higher processor speeds be enough to spur renewed interest in the once
sales darling for Apple? We don't think so, as the processor speed "gap"
between PC's and Macs continues to widen at an exaggerated pace. Even
"cheap" PC notebooks in the same price range as the iBook, are
at 2.0 to 2.4 GHz clock rates compared to what Apple has to offer in the
iBook.
