SONNET announces New Allegro FW400 PCI FireWire Product
 March 28, 2003 - Irvine CA

"Sonnet Technologies announced the AllegroT FW400 FireWire PCI adapter card, the latest addition to Sonnet's line of FireWire adapter cards. The Allegro FW400 installs into any available PCI slot of a Power Mac or PC, and instantly adds the FireWire (a.k.a. iLink®, 1394a) connections needed to connect high-speed digital peripherals. Each card has three six-pin external FireWire ports and performs at the data transfer rate of up to 400 Mbits/s, and can connect up to 63 devices." per Sonnet's recent Press Release.

There appears to be some confusion in this new product announcement, because i.Link® (registered trademark of Sony) is a four pin, not 6 pin verison of IEEE 1394 FireWire®.

Standard FireWire® conducts power to a connected devices via two of the six connector pins, while i.Link does not provide power; hence only a four pin connector. - Zack Bryce
